Flash CS5 Update 11.0.1

I like to have my development tools up to date, particularly those that grows rapidly, like Flash. Lets cut the crap. I was at Adobe’s website searching for flex, flash IDE and Flash player updates, and I found a patch/update for Flash Builder v4.0.1, a zip file for manually update the Flash IDE players (standalone and debug) v10.1.53.64, Player and plug in for IE (ActiveX) and Firefox/Opera/Safari/whatever and a crappy so called Patch for the Flash CS5 to version 11.0.1.

First, I downloaded and apply the patch for Flash Builder (FB for short), finished, and everything fine. Then, Trying the update for the Flash CS5 (FL for short). I said trying because the damn FL update didn’t reach the 100% but it says that it was successfully updated to 11.0.1, then I look at the About this software dialog and, still displaying 11.0.0.485, I tried again, and again, and again, and nothing happens, then, I check with the update manager and the update was not shown. At this point I realize that this update will not work, so, I move on to the directory under program files and, players will displaying the version 10.1.52…. instead of 10.1.53, well, Ok, I decided to update it by hand, downloaded the players zip file, unzip it, copy, paste, replace, yes and basically it worked.

I post an entry on the Adobe Forums, I got a few replays but nothing useful (thanks for the repliers) so I move on, doing other stuff.

Some days a really terrifying situation came, when I try to test a movie the compiler says that the FileReference Class do not exist…. WTF ! ? I check out my Publish Settings and… Fuck !, there’s no more Player 10 on the Player list !!!!! WTF ! again.

I completely wipe the CS5 install, reinstall, re check updates, the update for FL v11.0.1 show up, updated, the bar moves and reach 100%, restart FL, and… WTF !! third time, 11.0.0.48 on the about dialog and 10.1.52 on the players.

I do a little search about it and I found this post and then I follow it’s instructions and well, I see that I can make iPad apps now, here is another post on this behavior, I manually updated the players, but this is not supposed to be on auto mode???. You can download the player update from here.

I like Adobe products but this is very annoying, for me, so I decided to do most of my work on FB because I don’t know for which player I’m publishing or if it will work, I can’t see an option on the publish menu with Flash Player 10.1, and actually cant see the code hints because the code editor has not enough cache, here is a fix for it using the registry editor but again, you must like to do everything by hand or hacks (this remember me linux ) and people with no DIY experience will could get stuck.

I hope this post could help somebody out there.

See you.
